Is a relationship between the Folder Hierarchy and the Business Classification Scheme (BCS) important?
In our view it can be useful, but not crucial, and in many real-world EDRMS implementations the two will have some divergence to get a succesful implementation.
Just to re-cap, a BCS is classification scheme used to link records to their business context - it is usually represented as a hierarchy, however it can also often be defined in terms of
Function:Activity keyword pairs.
It seems logical that the Folder Hierarchy within an EDRMS should mimic the BCS - as they are both hierarchies - however many implementations benefit from the BCS being implemented in
metadata applied to the
File instead.
